On knowing His strength

February 11, 2011

There’s a line in Audrey Assad’s song “Run Forward” that says:

You make me afraid
Thank you, I’ve got to thank you
‘Cause now I know His strength
Thank you, I’ve gotta thank you

This line expressed something that took a lot for me to learn…that my understanding of God’s strength is proportionate to my understanding of my weakness. The Sunday School answer of “My God is so big, so strong, and so mighty” only becomes relevant and real when I can’t be strong enough for myself.

I’m not there yet, but I want to be able to feel grateful for the brokenness in me and around me, because the hurting is what it takes to break through the easy head answers and get to the root of the heart questions.
