Raspberry Red Pepper Jelly Success

July 27, 2011

The raspberry bushes in our backyard have been ones of the best parts of our garden in the last few years. We get two big crops each summer and last week, there were just enough berries left over from our daily snacking to make a batch of Raspberry Red Pepper Jelly. The recipe comes from Mennonite Girls Can Cook– I heartily recommend their blog!

Anyways. The jelly turned out great. I find preserving foods to be a very fulfilling activity…something about lining up the jars on the counter as they cool, hearing each lid pop sealed, and giving the jellies away to friends and neighbours is an incredibly satisfying thing to do. I think this is because we so easily forget the effort that it takes to make good food and canning allows us to remember that. All is grace, and red pepper jelly reminded me of that this week.
