Project 18: Winter Warmers in Ugandan Prints

These were part of a gift for an awesome friend who delivers babies and loves Africa (check out her site)- she mentioned that her fingers are sometimes cold when she arrives for home visits and when she does checkups on newborns or on pregnant moms. Perfect solution- little Ugandan print fabric handwarmers. I filled mine with rice and they heat up beautifully in the microwave for 30 seconds. I hope it isn’t weird for your midwife to ask to use your microwave when she arrives…? She’ll have to weigh in on that one.

To make your own, just take two rectangles of fabric (mine were 5″x3″) and sew them together with a 1/4″ seam, wrong sides facing, but leave one of the 3″ sides unsewn. Turn outside-out, and fill about 2/3rds of the way full with rice. Carefully fold the unsewn edges inwards and sew shut. Repeat for a second handwarmer.
